The gores are hand stitched together to form the canopy, leaving a small hole in the centre where the shaft is inserted.

This is an incredibly accurate and skilled task which requires years of experience to perfect. If the gores are stitched too loosely, the umbrella will leak, and if the gores are stitched too tightly, they won't fit properly causing pucking will appear around the tips of the umbrellas.

The tips are sewn directly into the canopy fabric then the canopy is inserted over the shaft and the small centre hole is sewn into the top notch to attach it securely.

The canopy is then hand stitched to the ribs at each of the gore seams to provide extra strength and ironed all over to provide a neat, crisp finish.
